Biography
Drawdé was born one month premature on June 20th 2364 in a shuttle heading for Talax from Rinax located in the Delta Quadrant.
The war with the Haakonians had been escalating severely over the first half of the year. Many of the Haakonian fighters were taking pot shots at anything that left Rinax. Lyn and Mai were against the war effort even though they both worked for the Talaxian Planetary Defense Initiative (TPDI).
Mai and a pregnant Lyn took passage on an agricultural shuttle that was loaded with newly manufactured culinary supplies, spices, and food for Talax from what seemed to be a doomed Rinax. While in route to Talax, a Haakonian fighter started using the shuttle for target practice. The fighter knocked out the propulsion systems, inertial dampeners, and the communication systems. With the propulsion system and the inertial dampeners damaged, the shuttle was knocked off course and set adrift, without communications and the fact that the Haakonian ships were still periodically firing at the shuttle, Talaxian Space Command considered them gone and never tried to retrieve the shuttle.
With a crew of four and three small families, the shuttle drifted aimlessly through space. Due to all of the excitement, Lyn went into labor, and 20 kansecs later, Drawdé was born. The agricultural shuttle wasn't equipped with any sophisticated weaponry, sensor systems, or defense systems since it was strictly a supply transport shuttle. It did, however, have a small compliment of shields, enough to ward off the constant barrage of space debris and an elaborate life support system designed for the transportation of live plants.
After several days, the crew managed to complete repairs to the inertial dampeners and the receiving section of the communications system; however, both the transmitting section and the shuttle's propulsion system were damaged beyond repair. Several months later, the crew noticed sporadic green flashes of light in the distance from the forward view ports. These flashes were always in the same place but were growing larger as time passed. The crew could only assume that they were drifting closer to the anomaly, but they were confused as to the cause of the flashes.
The day came when, by all calculations, the shuttle would be directly in front of the anomaly. In an instant, a blinding flash of light entered the shuttle, and the shuttle began to shudder violently. The inertial dampeners were being pushed to their limits to keep the shuttle steady. It seemed as though they were being pulled by something. Looking out the view ports, the crew could see two metallic cubes and a metallic sphere. A green ray of light connected the shuttle to the sphere, and they were pulled directly into the anomaly. The crew and passengers held on for dear life to anything that was connected to the hull. A green beam sliced through the shuttle from the aft section and slowly moved forward. What little number of sensors the crew had were all going crazy. Everyone was being scanned. For what, no one knew. Just as soon as it had started, it ended. The alarms went silent, sensors went back to normal, and the exterior illumination ceased to exist.
Looking out the view ports, everyone saw that they were no longer connected to the sphere. In fact, the two cubes and the sphere had vanished just as quickly as they appeared. They had been set free inside the anomaly.
No sooner than they'd been set free, another blinding flash devoured the shuttle, then, space.
The sensors could not tell the crew where they were; it was as if all the data on the shuttle's computers had been wiped clean. After drifting for what seemed like days, the crew started to receive communications from somewhere close by. The shuttle's proximity systems were picking up crafts at the outer limits of sensor range as well as a stationary structure. Since they had no means of communicating, they assumed that there would be a vessel along any day to check out the situation with the shuttle. Sure enough, on the next day, a ship arrived off of the starboard bow.
Three persons beamed aboard the shuttle. Everyone on board exchanged pleasantries, explained the situation, then everyone was beamed to the rescuing ship’s Sickbay, where the ship's doctors looked them over for any unknown biological issues. They also treated wounds and inoculated everyone for any diseases. The medical staff was amazed to see how similar the genetic make up was to theirs. Aside from a few dissimilarities, an extra organ here, and a few less bones there, they were basically the same.
Fortunately, one of the members of the Talaxian crew was a medical officer and could help the doctors along with the physicals. Everyone checked out with a clean bill of health.
It was too bad they couldn't say the same for their shuttle. It was badly damaged. It looked as if a thread was holding it together. If it weren't for the tractor beam, the shuttle would have surely broken apart. The ship's captain informed the Talaxians that they would be at a nearby Starbase in a couple of days and that they could get the shuttle repaired there. The engineers, working alongside the Talaxian captain, had difficulties trying to integrate the systems with theirs. It was not that any technology was better than the other, it was just that they were so different. Several of the systems on the shuttle had to be completely replaced and devices had to be custom made to mate the shuttle''s systems to the new ones. Data from the shuttle was downloaded to the computers at the Starbase, and additional data, information about the new star system the Talaxians were in, was uploaded to the shuttle. It took almost six weeks to complete the refit.
While on the Starbase, the Talaxians determined, with the help of some scientists, going home was impossible in their lifetime. This realization hit Drawde's parents and the other families very hard. They didn't know what they were going to do, where they would live, or what would they call "home." The only thing they could do was make the best of the situation and begin a new life. The Talaxian captain spoke with the commander of the Starbase and was given a couple of different options. They could be dropped off at the nearest M-Class planet with enough supplies to begin a new life, or they could petition to become a member of the United Federation of Planets as ambassadors from Talax. They applied for and received UFP Citizenship. They spent several years on that Starbase, learned new things, met new people and races. His father got a job as an engineer, and his mother got a job as a medical technician in the infirmary. The other families also got good positions on the Starbase.
At the age of 14, Drawde decided that he wanted to become a member of Starfleet. His mom and dad were very excited about his decision, and they decided to make things easy for him by moving to Earth.
At 17, Drawde applied for and received entrance to Starfleet Academy under the recommendation of RAdm Robert Else, Commander of the station where they now lived. He completed basic training in the top ten percent of his class and was able to pick his technical school training facility. He chose to go to the UFPSFA, just outside Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The climate and terrain there looked a lot like the pictures he had seen of Talax and Rinax growing up. Technical school was a blast. Drawde almost failed out of his second semester and his father was furious with him for that. Drawde calmed down a bit as the months went by.
Four years of schooling went by fast. He graduated with honors and was ready to head back into the stars. He majored in Starship Defense Theory and minored in Transport Technology. After graduation, Drawde decided to take some classes in Starfleet security protocols and passed in the top ten percent of his class.
He was working in Colorado Springs, as a chef''s assistant while he waited for his first call to duty. Working in the Culinary Arts had been a tradition in his family for generations but Drawde had different interests. One day while working at the ‘Melting Pot’, one of Colorado Springs’ most prestigious restaurants, a waiter was entering from the dining area with a pot of hot oil from one of the tables. At the same time Drawde was kneeling down to pick up a whisk that another chef had thrown at him in fun. It landed behind the door that the waiter was entering. The door opened just enough to allow the waiter to enter but stopped before it opened completely, hitting Drawde in the shoulder. This startled the waiter causing him to drop the hot oil right on Drawde’s head. He ended up with 3rd degree burns covering his entire head, 2nd degree burns on his shoulders and back with some minor burning on his chest.
Reconstructive surgery had to be performed to correct the damages that had incurred. Drawde’s parents had opted to have Drawde look more ‘Human’ due to the teasing that he had received growing up. The surgery was successful. After 2 years of physical therapy and some muscular implants, Drawde looked as if nothing had ever happened and even though he had the familiar Talaxian ridges and markings he did look more human. He never returned to the restaurant but instead furthered his studies at the Academy as he awaited his first assignment. He really wanted to see where he came from so when the word came out that there were some positions in the Gamma Quadrant he applied to and was accepted by Orion Station, which in turn assigned him to the USS Kitty Hawk, April 26, 2386.
